⚡ WordPress Plugin
Your content.
Your subscribers.
Your revenue.
SubPress turns your WordPress site into a paid subscription platform. Charge for your content, manage subscribers, and collect recurring payments — without platform fees or lock-in.

The Problem
Platforms take your money. Plugins miss the point.
WordPress creators are stuck between platforms that skim revenue and plugins built for everything except what you actually need.
Substack, Patreon & Co.
10%+
Platform fee on every pound you earn. Forever. Plus payment processing on top.
With 500 subscribers at £8/month, that’s £480/month in platform fees alone — nearly £5,800 a year that should be in your pocket.
SubPress
0%
No platform fees. No percentage revenue share. Just standard Stripe/PayPal processing fees.
Those same 500 subscribers? You keep the full £4,000/month. Only standard card processing fees apply. That’s it.
MemberPress
Starts at £150/year. Built for complex membership sites, not simple paid newsletters. Overkill for most content creators.
WooCommerce Subscriptions
An e-commerce engine bolted onto content. Multiple moving pieces and plugins just to restrict a post. Way too complicated.
DIY WordPress Stack
Cobble together a membership plugin, an email plugin, a payment plugin, and pray they all work together. Good luck.
Features
Everything you need. Nothing you don’t.
SubPress was built from the ground up for content creators who want to charge for their work — not run an e-commerce store.

What Creators Are Saying
The frustration is real.
Real sentiments from creators across WordPress forums, Reddit, and newsletter communities — and exactly why we built SubPress.
“I just switched from Substack to self-hosted and can attest to the cost savings and control. One more tip: offer an annual subscription at a slight discount — helps with cash flow and retention.”
WordPress community member — Cost Savings
“When I hit around $1,500 in monthly revenue, I started doing the maths on alternative platforms. That’s when I realised the fee model was designed to trap successful creators.”
Newsletter creator, beehiiv community — Fee Frustration
“My newsletter on Substack is not my property — I’m on rented land. I consider it an email delivery service with bells and whistles. That’s why my newsletter gets posted on my own website first.”
Independent creator — Ownership
“We were looking for a plugin that would allow both subscription and membership accounts — and the search was more challenging than we thought. Most plugins allow only one or the other.”
WordPress.org plugin review — Complexity
“I currently use MemberPress and can’t stand their lack of flexibility. Does anyone know of any good modern payment gateway alternatives?”
Discourse forum user — Flexibility
“Revenue sharing stings. They take 10% of paid subscriptions, plus Stripe fees. Once you cross a thousand dollars a month, you really notice it.”
Platform reviewer, Sprout24 — Fees
“I’d rather spend some of the money I earn from writing to establish a platform I own and control. These business expenses are worth the cost.”
Self-hosted newsletter creator — Independence
“The biggest frustration has been design limitations. Coming from Ghost, Substack feels restrictive. Emails look nearly identical to every other Substack in my inbox.”
Creator review — Design Freedom

Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the questions creators ask most when evaluating SubPress.
How is SubPress different from Substack?
Substack takes 10% of everything you earn — forever. On top of that, you’re building on their platform, with their design, under their rules. SubPress is a WordPress plugin you install on your own site. You keep 100% of your revenue (minus standard card processing), you own your subscriber list, and you have full control over design and branding.
Why not just use MemberPress or Restrict Content Pro?
Those plugins are excellent for complex membership sites — multi-level access, LMS integration, e-commerce bundles. But if you’re a content creator who simply wants to charge for a newsletter or gate premium posts, they’re overkill. SubPress is purpose-built for paid content subscriptions: payments, content gating, email delivery, and drip content in a single, simple plugin.
Do I need a separate email marketing tool?
No. SubPress includes built-in email delivery. New posts are automatically sent to your subscribers. For smaller lists, WordPress Mail works perfectly. As you scale, you can connect SendGrid or Mailgun for better deliverability.
What payment methods can my subscribers use?
SubPress supports both Stripe (credit/debit cards) and PayPal, and your subscribers can choose their preferred method at checkout. Substack only supports Stripe, meaning subscribers without credit cards or in countries with limited Stripe support simply can’t pay you.
What happens to my data if I stop using SubPress?
Everything lives in your WordPress database — your subscriber list, your content, your payment history. It’s all yours. You can export at any time. There’s no platform lock-in and no data hostage situation.
Can I migrate from Substack to SubPress?
Yes. WordPress already has well-established import tools for Substack content. Once your posts are in WordPress, SubPress handles the subscription and payment layer. You’ll need to re-invite paying subscribers since Stripe subscriptions can’t transfer between platforms, but your content and free subscriber list can come with you.
Is SubPress suitable for large subscriber lists?
Yes. SubPress has no subscriber limits. For email delivery at scale, we recommend connecting SendGrid or Mailgun rather than relying on WordPress Mail — these services are built for high-volume sending and ensure excellent deliverability.
What does “drip content” mean?
Drip content lets you automatically deliver a sequence of posts to new subscribers over time. Every subscriber starts from the first item and receives content at set intervals — regardless of when they joined. It’s ideal for onboarding sequences, structured courses, or evergreen content funnels.
Does SubPress work with my existing WordPress theme?
Yes. SubPress uses shortcodes —

Are there any hidden fees or revenue shares?
None. SubPress does not take any percentage of your revenue. The only transaction fees you’ll pay are the standard processing fees from Stripe (typically 2.9% + 30p) and/or PayPal. These are the same fees you’d pay with any payment processor — SubPress adds nothing on top.
